Let your draft percolate

I had an interesting experience earlier this week when I wrote a draft of a piece for a blog, reread it, thought it was horrible, then reread it two days later, and was able to see its merits. The difference? I had taken the morning off. I spent an hour reading slowly—really letting the words fill me and when I sat at my desk with the messy blog draft, I was able to understand how to make it better cohere.
